To strengthen the national tourism policy of ‘High Value, Low Volume’ tourism, the Royal Government of Bhutan on 27th June 2022 increased the daily tariff termed the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) to USD 200 per person per day from USD 65, with actual application differed until 31 August 2027.  However, to boost the ailing tourism sector post-COVID, and considering potential benefits of the sector in generating employment, earning foreign exchange, growth of ancillary industries and overall economic growth, the Royal Government of Bhutan announced several incentives which include the following. This is applicable to USD paying tourists.

1. The effective SDF shall be USD 100 per person per day for US Dollar paying tourists.

2. In addition, fifty percent discount on the SDF shall be granted on the rates applied to children aged between 6 to 12 years for US Dollar paying children visiting as tourists. Children who have not yet turned six years old do not have to pay any SDF fee.

3. The 24 hours SDF waiver for tourists staying in the border towns shall continue.

4. SDF waiver of MICE events (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions).

The above incentives will come into effect from 1 September 2023 and shall remain effective for four years till 31 August 2027.

For the Indian nationals, the SDF is fixed at INR 1200 per person per day. This shift is to ensure the principle of sustainability, infrastructure upgradation and overall guest experience.

Embracing this shift in policy, Bhutan Agro Tourism is pleased to embrace the revised rates inclusive of the SDF, visa fee, and actual tour costs.
